The following work was completed as part of PRL 604 at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. These assignments focused on developing professional public relations writing skills across a variety of formats and audiences. All assignments were required to follow AP Style and demonstrate clear, concise and audience-focused communication.
News Release
This assignment involved writing a one-page news release announcing a fictional new product, service or initiative for a selected corporation. The release was designed to communicate a newsworthy announcement in a professional media format and included an executive quote and supporting visual.
Public Relations Ethics — Group Project
This group project examined an ethical dilemma involving the unauthorized use of another company’s campaign idea. We evaluated how a public relations professional should respond to the situation and applied principles from the PRSA Code of Ethics to support our recommendations.

Email Pitch
This assignment focused on developing a concise and newsworthy email pitch to a journalist. The goal was to connect a fictional corporate initiative to a relevant media angle, capture the journalist’s attention and clearly request an opportunity for media coverage.
PESO & Target Audience — Group Project
For this group project, we selected examples of paid, earned, shared and owned media to promote Austin, Texas, as a bachelor and bachelorette destination for Gen Z. We used research about the target audience to explain why each media choice would be a good fit.

eNewsletter / CEO Message
Writing an internal email from a company CEO announcing a temporary freeze on travel and related expenses. The message was designed to communicate the decision clearly and authoritatively while reassuring employees about the company’s financial position.

Talking Points
Developing a one-page set of talking points for a media briefing based on a fictional crisis scenario. The talking points were designed around an assigned role in the crisis and provided clear, concise information that could be used when responding to the media.

Fact Sheet
Creating a two-page corporate fact sheet designed as a resource for journalists. It provided an overview of the company’s history, major milestones, products and services, workforce, initiatives and achievements using factual and clearly organized information.
